Downtown Frame of Mine is proud to host an art estate sale to honor the work of late local artist Ella Ruark by showcasing five of her original oil paintings in our gallery; all of which are up for sale. Each oil painting is floral in nature and beautifully detailed with colorful accents. As you can see below, Ella occasionally enjoyed incorporating still life fruits to complement the floral arrangements in her work.
Get to Know the Artist: Who was Ella Ruark?
Ella Ruark was born on Hooper’s Island, located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, in 1915. She graduated from Hooper’s Island High School in 1932. In the 1940’s, she and her husband William moved to Baltimore where she began her artistic career at the local YMCA. She attended the Schuler School of Fine Arts where she was compelled to transform her painting hobby into a career – and that she did. Ruark became known for (and will since be remembered by) her realistic paintings of still life and waterfowl. Her work has been featured alongside an article in the Baltimore Sun and she also had a painting chosen by the Grand National Waterfowl Association in 1993. After a long life bursting with passion for the arts, Ella Ruark passed away on May 11th, 2015 at 99-years-old.
